“What is the beeper for. This morning the beeper or alarm was going off constantly until I pushed the power button in to turn it off. This morning when I turn the power back on it would beep and go off then about a couple of minutes later it beeps again.”

It will beep constantly if your power goes out. That's to tell you that your equipment is running off the battery power.
