“Every picture of this model shows it oriented vertically, standing up. However, in the online manual it says "Lay the UPS *horizontally* or use the key-hole mounting slots to affix the UPS to the wall in the proper orientation". I'm confused.”

Unit is designed for vertical placement so outlets are easily accessible. Keyholes are for vertical orientation on wall.
