“I have a headset with one multi-purpose jack, so when I put it in the mic slot I can talk but can't hear but when I put it in the headset slot I can hear but not talk. Any way in the PC settings to adjust this? If not any recommendations for an adapter?”

You will need to use a headset that has a separate plug for the microphone and headphones. There are adapter's you may purchase to convert your single plug headset to a separate headphone audio output/ microphone input jacks.
