Typically, Modern games cannot take advantage of the raw power of an i7 series processor. That being said, i5 series processors have always been a great way to save money and get an equivalent experience when gaming. Also, the 6600k can be overclocked if you buy a better cooler to ensure you don't thermal throttle and hurt the CPU. This is something I would do a lot of research on as it can be very dangerous to do to a CPU.
