Yes, you should purchase an external hard drive and transfer your data to it. Then when you get a new computer you can transfer it to it but also still have a back-up on the hard drive.

Please try again later.HEY THERE! there is a difference between your computer dying and the hard drive dying. just because the computer dies, doesn't mean the HD will die with it. AND you don't need an external HD , just transfer the one inside of the dead computer to the new one if the drive still works fine, that way you can keep your OS without reinstalling it on a new drive.
