Best to hook up using RCA plugs in the back of the receiver, i had trouble out of mine when hooked up to the speaker wire, called Def Tech, they said I needed more power.

Steve, it’s a powered subwoofer. You don’t need to connect it to an amp. Use the LFE (Subwoofer) Port on the back of your receiver for a low pass signal and you’re ready to rock!
