You really need a separate receiver and at least a decent pair of front speakers to start with. The amount of bass you get from this sub will overpower a system or have to be turned down so low to hear the highs and mods coming from the front speaker on a sound bar system. I’d recommend getting a powered receiver like denon or Yamaha or whatever you like just so it’ll put out enough power to properly push a nice pair of front speakers. Denon has great bookshelf speakers that would work in the 1000 series. Start out getting just two if budget is an issue then get two mor to add a center left right or a rear left right depending on your setup. You will not be disappointed simply using the bookshelf speaker as the only speakers in your system with the sub. My bad you will also need a nice center channel as most of the dialogue will be coming from that. Those can get a little pricey but if you’re like me and really want clean sound at high volume then this is in my option the most important speaker of any surround system. Hope this helps.
