• Yes you need wifi. It is very easy to setup. Just follow the instructions that com with it. Unless you need a wide printer or want to print on DVD's this printer isn't for you. It uses 6 print heads.

• Yes you need to be within wifi coverage to use the wireless function of the printer. You can always hard wire it to the computer but the wireless function is useless without wifi

• All these other answers are incorrect. Yes, the user manual itself says you can setup this printer to print wirelessly without a WIFI router or access point. See menus Admin/Network/Wireless and then manual setup Ad hoc. It's just a configuration issue, not for the technically challenged.

• Yes, the device and printer need to be on the same wifi network. I print from an iPhone, there is an app.
