• 8.3 inches is most likely the depth of the stand--at least it's very close to that Just over 8 inches deep, about 13 inches wide. The monitor itself is maybe 3 inches in the thickest area.

• The monitor mounted to the stand IS 8.3" wide; the monitor itself is more or less 2" wide and straddles the stand mounted to it at the base. The monitor was marked down considerably and has proven to be a great buy.
