I am not a computer guru, but I have installed power point (Microsoft Office) on my computer. It runs fine. If he plans to do any graphic art works in college, I would think this would definitely not do the job. I would not buy this computer. This computer display is NOT 1080P-HD, its only 720P-HD, which is fine for most things except gaming and graphic work. It is great for the money, but it is a cheaper computer in price. When our daughter started college in 2013 we bought her a Macbook Pro laptop. The best apple offered at the time. She is in grad school now and still is far from outgrowing it. It does everything she needs it to do, and it has the best hardware in it that Apple offered at the time (2013). It cost $1,700.00 though. There are just as good PC Laptops out there with the same or better hardware that are much less money. I recommend that you visit your local Best Buy and talk with their people. They are very knowledgeable on computers. Tell them what your looking for and what your son needs it for, and I am sure they will hook you up. I hope this helps, and somewhat answers your question. Good Luck, we do like ours.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do not have this laptop but looking at the specs, it would be fine for that. I am in grad school myself and may buy it for my school work. He will need Word too but his school may provide it for free so check before you buy. :)
