You can copy the data on to an external drive and then move it to the new system. We also suggest you to contact Geek Squad and they will assist you further with this information.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My old computer was toasted by a lightning strike but Geek Squad was able to recover and transfer all of my files from the old hard drive for me. If you have their support plan the cost is reasonable and can be free depending upon the plan that you have. If your old computer is still working you can copy the files to a flash drive and then from the flash drive to the new desktop. If you have a home network you can usually transfer them directly over that network if you enable that feature on both computers using Start-Settings-Network and Sharing Center. The programs are a different story. You will have to download them from your Microsoft account and or reload them from the other program disks that you used to install them originally. Some CDs containing them may have been packaged with your old computer. Geek squad can also help with that. Unfortunately some of your older programs may not be compatible with your new hardware or Windows 10. You can look on line to see if the program originator or Microsoft have any fixes or patches that you can use. I needed to do that for a few of the programs that I used and then they worked fine. When copying your address book you may need to "enable" it to be loaded to your newly installed email program like Outlook. You can find some of these tricks on line from Microsoft or using Start-Settings-Update and Recovery-Troubleshoot. For your new computer I also recommend using an external automatic backup like My Passport. That way you will always have a copy of your files available if you need them and you can simply plug that into your new computer and offload them from there.
