The speaker's audio is supplied by ether the stereo 1/8" jack or the if you use the HDMI port. If you don't connect any audio they will not be connected. If you do not plan on using the speakers, you could buy a very similar monitor without the speakers, like the Dell S2316M. This Monitor is 23" instead of 23.8" and has no HDMI port. Video specs are very much the same.
