It is self cleaning. It has a self-cleaning cycle when you power on and power off. To rinse the LatteCrema system, you push a button. For descaling, all you do is add the descaling solution, water, and the machine will do the rest. It is quite easy, you just assist the machine with the water refills. It does run through a lot of water really fast.
