“Does this unit respond to the remote inputs when the remote is not pointed directly at the receiver? I am looking for a receiver which I can place behind closed doors in the entertainment center and still operate via remote.”

I am using a Harmony remote which does work as you want. Do not know if remote shipped with unit works this way.
