“This brand new receiver almost immediately shuts down with a Thermal protection warning. checked all speaker wires, no issues, then disconnected all IO and it still shuts down with the red led blinking. I reset the system as per manual. Same. Return?”

Hello, first let me apologize for your frustrations. You have listed all typical troubleshooting methods. The receiver will need to be serviced or exchanged.

I would definitely return it. If it shut down even with no speakers... Just get a replacement, I like the system for what I paid for it.

The receiver might be to powerful for the speakers. Check your watts to see how much they can handle. It shuts down to protect your speakers so they don't blow. Invest in more powerful speakers. I have 2 Polk audio speakers that handle 140 watts each.
