“I have 4 pairs of speakers wired in two rooms and on my deck. I just want to listen to music through them all. Can I over ride the surround function and listen to each pair equally?”

You can, by putting the receiver in all channel/multichannel stereo mode. This will out put stereo to the Front LT/Front RT/Surround RT/Surround LT. If you are using more then 5 speakers and are connecting more then one speaker in a single terminal, I would recommend a speaker selector box to put less strain on the receiver.
