“Will a sub with only a speaker wire connection (no wall plug for power) work connected to this unit via a speaker wire to male RCA adapter? Or since it's lacking an external power source, will it not work?”

No, it will not work becouse the rca connection is a low input source in order for a subwoofer to accept a rca connection it has to be amplified; meaning it need a power source (120 volts).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.that preamp is running at 1-3 volts.... if you hook any sub to it, it could blow out the channels in the entire unit and leave you with nothing but the clock turning on....lol do not cut and chop an rca to make a speakerwire....ever
