“Will this receiver work with a Denon Soundbar 550 to provide surround sound over HEOS? Basically soundbar will be connected to TV but receiver will be in a different location in the room powering the speakers. Will the sound sync through HEOS?”

The Denon AVR-S540BT comes equipped with Bluetooth. No HEOS, Please consider the AVR-S650H with HEOS. The AVR-S650H will allow you to sync with the HEOS sound bar.
