Yes, this receiver supports multi-zone with the "Main Zone" being 5.1 and "Zone 2" being stereo. The "surround back" speaker connectors are used for Zone 2. The remote control contains 2 buttons in the upper left (labeled "Main Zone" and "Zone 2") for quickly turning on and off each zone independently. Note that you can choose which zones are on or off, but there is only a single audio source for both. You cannot listen to different things in the two zones at the same time. (Some more advanced receivers support this functionality, but this one does not.)
