“Will Zone 2 audio output work with OPTICAL audio input from the TV? My old Onkyo TX-SR603X doesn't accept optical inputs for Zone 2 speakers, so I have to run TV audio through a DAC which is cumbersome. Hope to avoid that with a new receiver.”

Hello TonyS, Yes, the Denon AVR-S970H can output audio from the optical input to Zone 2 while simultaneously using the same HDMI signal in the main zone. If you want to listen to a different source in Zone 2 while having HDMI audio in the main zone, you can only choose from the HEOS, Tuner, USB, or analog inputs for Zone 2. In contrast, the X series receivers can output optical audio in either scenario. Please note that only PCM 2-channel signals will output to Zone 2 in this situation. Regards, Denon
