Hello Tony, thank you for your inquiry. Both the AVR-X1800 and AVR-S970H receivers are compatible with the S Series or Reserve Series from Polk Audio. We recommend trying out both offerings from Polk Audio if possible. The Reserve Series, in particular, features a remarkable Ring Radiator tweeter that must be heard. The main differences between the two receivers mainly lie in their features. The 970 provides an extra HDMI to connect a projector with a monitor or two monitors, while the 1800 offers Pre-output connectivity. With Pre-Outputs, you can potentially upgrade by adding a Two-Channel amplifier for the front speakers or to Zone two allowing Zone two plus 7.1 function. Additionally, the 1800 has a more advanced power supply and can handle speaker impedance swings better.
