Hello, The AVR-S970H can drive a wide range of speakers overall. If you have a large room, I suggest favoring speakers with a sensitivity rating of 87dB or more. If you have a smaller room, speakers with a sensitivity rating of 85dB or more is recommended. Some speakers are particularly difficult to drive - such as Magnepan models, but most speakers are much less of a challenge for the AVR-S970H.

The Denon AVR-S970H can provide 95 watts/channel with a 7.2 speaker system so the speakers you choose should be able to handle at least 100 watts each. If you are looking to buy new speakers I would recommend going to a store sound room and listen to different speakers played on your model receiver. I have found the folks at BestBuy to be really helpful for this. List6ening to the speakers is the best way to find the ones you like, especially if you are not an audiophile and not familiar with all the terminology.
