Hi AtmosSeeker, Yes - you can have Dolby Atmos with a five speaker + sub-woofer arrangement connected to an AVR-S970H. It would be configured as a 3.1.2 set-up. You would connect your Atmos speakers to the surround back terminals on the back panel of the AVR-S970H (after assigning that pair to 'height' speakers), and not connect anything to the surround speaker terminals. Rear speakers can be added when you choose to do so.
