Hi Mike, Yes - the AVR-X3800H can do a 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos configuration.

Yes. It has 9 Channel amplification. You can set it 7.2.2 . But I would recommend doing 5.2.4 instead. 4 atmos/height speakers will give you better sound than two. You won’t lose anything by losing surround back. 99% content is 5.1 even the atmos ones. In future if we start getting 7.1 sound then you can add external amplifier to upgrade your system to 7.2.4.
