Hello, Unfortunately, the AVR-X3800H does not have the necessary inputs for a VHS player or an older DVD player. In order to connect a VHS deck and an older DVD player, we recommend considering the AVR-X4800H as it has the analog video inputs (component and composite) required, and can then upconvert the signal to an HDMI feed to a modern flat screen TV. The necessary analog (VHS) and digital (DVD) audio inputs are also found on the AVR-X4800H.
