Some desktop computers have enough expansion areas for a secondary "slave" drive to be installed. However, I would recommend that you purchase an external hard drive enclosure. You can install the hard drive from your XP computer into the enclosure and simply plug the drive into your PC using a USB cable and copy over data to your new computer. I would recommend using it as a back-up storage drive if the size permits. For about $30, you can keep the old drive as a useful external storage device.
