Given my experience, this would break very fast. Mine only lasted 4 months and I am careful (no dropping or abuse). I would suggest getting a rubber case for his tablet, similar to the ones on the kids tablets. I got my sister a Fire tablet with a large rubbery kids case, and her tablet is doing great despite similar treatment to what you described.
