No, you cannot connect through an Ethernet. You will have to keep it plugged in for it to stay on 24/7 but I don't see a problem. It might work for a time clock if you use a system that uses an app.

They are refered to as eop , as opposed to poe ( ethernet over power , power over ethernet ) I cannot say if it will work through converter
