The Mavic can fly up to 4 miles away. However, unless you have visual observers (that also have voice communications with you) along the way, you can only fly it as far away as you can visually see it. These are FAA rules that you must abide by.

Following FAA law, you need to maintain line of sight, which is typically up to 1 mile. I haven't had any latency or drop in signal at that distance. Although at that distance, since the drone is small, it is very hard to see.
