No cellular data is necessary when flying a DJI drone. The only thing you need an internet connection for is for activating the drone when it's purchased or downloading and installing firmware updates.

Internet is not required, but highly recommended. I carry one of those portable emergency chargers just in case.

No cellular date required. However, it will work better if you do since it can quickly download updated maps for flying in new areas.

Can you fly Mavic mini without cell service?
Yes, you may use only the remote controller of the DJI Mavic Mini when flying the drone. It will fly just fine without a mobile device attached, but you won't have access to the intelligent flight modes though as they need the DJI Fly application

It does not need cell service and recommends that the phone is in airplane mode when flying. Live streaming will need cellular data.

You can use any devise that will download the "DJI GO 4" app. If the devise is too old it wont allow the app to download.
