In slow cinema mode it does have a decent obstacle avoidance system so you could use it for scouting. I have a parrot anafi I use for mountain snowmobile scouting, the anafi does not have obstacle avoidance, and its range is less since it uses wifi, but I can get it out over a mile maybe 2 most times where this drone may go 3-4 miles (both in rural area, urban is much less) but this all, works because from 400 foot up there are no trees and I can zoom and see for a few miles, which the mavic can do nicely too, however the anafi folds up and can fit in my shoe so it takes up less space, the anafi camera can rotate up 90, and the anafi is super quiet to not disturb others or wildlife. So as with most things there always trade off both ways. So buy both LOL then grab a skyvio 2 when it becomes available with its beacon and incredible obstacle avoidance for following you down the trail and you would have the perfect trio Lol
