“Hi there. I recently moved into a new apartment and my cable works fine except the audio and picture doesn't work. The optical section is lit up red on my Vizio tv however there is not a place for an optical cord to be plugged into my cable box. Help!:(”

Just connect an hdmi cable between the cable box and tv. Both audio and video will go to the tv through that cable. If you want audio OUT to go to a stereo, use the optical cable from the tv to the stereo. In other words, the optical port on the tv is an output.

It sends sound signals from your TV to external sound devices, (speakers, home theater system etc). Your TV get its signals from the cable box and sends the sound signals out to your sound devices.
