“Is there a way to adjust the amount of suction. I just got mine, and it will not work on my area rug. It is way too much suction. I may have to return it if I can't use it on my rugs.”

Use the adjustment button. I did have a little trouble at the beginning. Once I found the correct adjustment, there was no problem.
