“When I try to vacuum on my new rugs - I can barely push the vacuum. IT works well on a short berber rug and hard floor - but not on the carpet. It is is not a high push carpet. Just a little above a berber”

I typically find this means that you need to clean your brush head. I have long hair, and it will get wrapped around the bar that is engaged when you set the Dyson for carpet. You will need to remove the cover using a straight screw driver and clean any hair or fibers that are wound around the bar/head. You should find that it works fine.
