how do I get the roller to stay on.. null

Assume you’re talking about the vacuum head? It is a bit tricky to see but there is a lip on the gasket that you have to push the clip over. It takes a little more pressure than you think you need. Plus there is also a red crescent-shaped clip that goes around the back of the vacuum head that must be removed to take the head off, and then put back when you reassemble it.
