It is safe around dogs/cats/ animals in general. It is hot to touch when it runs for awhile, but it wouldn’t burn anyone or set fur on fire. If anything, it would cause the animal slight discomfort and move away if it touched directly on the hot part.

Yes-- it heats air, and won't catch your dog's tail on fire. This is the reason we purchased it.
