Hello GG, this is Kelly with Dyson. The Dyson HP04 Pure Hot + Cool's filter will have a lifespan of 4382 hours. It you were going to run your machine 12 hours every single day, you would have a year of life from the filter. With the HP06, which is our Cryptomic™ model, it's a bit difference. The Cryptomic technology has an added panel that breaks down formaldehyde into CO2 and H2O and never needs replacing, since it’s built into the machine. The Hepa filter is separate from the Cryptomic technology, we recommend replacing the filter every 12 months if the purifier is used an average of 24 hours a day. If you use it an average 12 hours or less a day, replacement is recommended every 18 months. It's not washable as that would damage the integrity of the filter and how it works to remove allergens and harmful particles from the Air. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
