Hi Anu, this is Kelly with Dyson. The HP04 Pure Hot + Cool would work well in a finished basement environment. The filter life would be about 4382 hours, so if you used the machine 12 hours every single day, you'd get about one year of use from the filter. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
