“Can this unit be plugged into a standard AC outlet to use when battery dies since the battery life is short (only 20 minutes)?”

Hi there, this is Tia from Dyson. With regard to the Dyson Humdinger™ vacuum, the battery charges fully in 3.5 hours, from a depleted state. It can be safely left to charge throughout the day, so it’s ready to use whenever you need it. The Humdinger™ vacuum won’t run while connected to the charger cord. When the unit is plugged in to charge, it will not run (Charge only). Dyson does not have an AC accessory plug to run the vacuum
