Hi Jenny, this is Kelly with Dyson. Some air purification machines will utilize an ionizer, which releases charged chemicals into the air. These chemicals bond with particulates and assist in removing those particles. However, this does generate ozone in the home. Dyson Purifiers do not use Ionization to purify the air, and do not generate ozone. Best Wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
