Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool is always purifying the air whether it is in fan mode, heater mode or in auto mode. While in auto mode, it will continuously monitor the air quality and turn on when it detects the air quality has fallen below the target level set. Best Wishes, Krystal Dyson Customer Support
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It is always purifying the air when running. The auto mode let's you set an air quality threshold and when that threshold is met, it kicks in on it's own to purify the air and then turns the fan off when it gets the air quality below the threshold.
