Hi there Linda, this is Tia from Dyson. The V15 Detect offers three modes of suction, and the High Torque cleaner head also has a built-in suction control slider offering you the ability to open the vents for different flooring types or larger debris. The High Torque cleaner head features thicker nylon bristles to drive deep and remove ground-in dirt from rugs and carpets. Our cordless models are not designed with a switch to turn off the motor-driven brushbar. Since all rugs and carpeting can vary, we recommend consulting with the carpeting manufacturer to verify compatibility of Dyson vacuums on your particular rug type.
