You can just go straight from one to the other. I go from hard wood flooring to a shag rug with no problems.

Yes. Do it every day. Laminate floor to carpet. Not a problem.

I don't change anything, I just vacuum from hardwood to carpet with no issues. Although I have not had the need, you can also up the suction power right on the handle as you vacuum.
