“When I plug in my external mic to my Canon vixia, which is connected by HDMI to my laptop for live stream, the internal mic stops working but the external mic doesn't work either. Please advise”

Check your software in laptop and software check everything lines up
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Be sure to read your owners manual. I had the same problem with my Sony a6100. The manual stated that in order to properly use it to turn the setting to movie in order to use the external mic. In addition, there should a setting in your audio recording window that gives you a choice as to how you desire to set it up.
