No. This isn't a heated base like you'd see for much cheaper where it heats the mug directly. The ember mug has an embedded heating element and rechargeable battery in the base. The reason for the base is to recharge the battery, not heat the mug. The heating is handled by the mug itself.

The charging station charges the battery which keeps the coffee hot even when its removed from the charging station which allows you to take the mug anywhere while drinking your coffee in the morning.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This ONLY works with the ember mug on the charging station. All of the smarts are in the mug's base; it contains the heater and bluetooth wireless module. Putting any old mug on the charging station won't do anything.

When using the Ember with the coaster, it will charge the mug (when it's empty) or maintain the current battery percentage (if liquid is inside).
