Can I use epson 288XL ink cartridge in place of 288-I? null

I have Epson 288XL ink cartage that was sold to me for my Epson printer XP. 440, The cartage will not stay in place, it is not a 288-I taken from the printer.

It depends on model but generally the XL cartridge can be used in place of the standard.

I have never taken the chance of buying the XL and THEN not being about to use it. I replaced my ink with what was already in the printer, so I would be on the safe side; which was the 288.
