• Hi GordonVB, The flip up door at the back of the ET-3830 allows the scanner unit to be hinged upward. It is necessary to open the entire scanner unit to access the top of the ink tanks for refills. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.

• Epson online support site indicates the rear slot is for paper that’s heavier than copy paper (card stock, etc) and also for envelopes.
