“I want a projector that can be used to trace images onto canvas as small as 20" x 16". Can this projector focus down to that size? In not, what is smallest size it can produce. Is there a more suitable Epson model?”

Yes. It focuses well down to fairly close to the screen. Plus there is a control to enlarge/reduce the image size.
