“How many prints can you typically get out the larger capacity cartridges if they exist. Is there any kind of replacement internal cleaning pad that needs to be occasionally replaced. My current printer got trashed with gummed up ink inside (what a mess)”

Hi WayneG, Epson high-capacity 121XL cartridges work with the XP-4100. ISO ink yield is 500 black pages and 350 color pages. The XP-4100 has an internal ink pad that lasts the life of the printer. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.
