Hi Debeara, Cartridges that are still in their original packaging usually have years of shelf time before they reach the expiration date. Make sure the black cartridge is a genuine Epson 212 or high-capacity 212XL. You can also try reseating the cartridge to make sure it is inserted properly. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.
